This is one of 12 paintings Monet produced in 1899 featuring the Japanese footbridge and his water garden. Unlike the red of traditional Japanese footbridges, Monet had it painted blue-green to blend with the garden.

The Rehearsal of the Ballet Onstage

Date: ca. 1874

Source: Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL Public domain; Creative Commons Zero (CC0).

There are three versions of this painting with the same stage and placement of the dancers. The version painted entirely in monochrome grays was displayed at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874.

Lunch at the Restaurant Fournaise (The Rowers Lunch)

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1914)

Date: 1875

The venue for this painting was the riverside terrace restaurant at Maison Fournaise, where Renoir stayed, in Chatou, on the Seine River. This same restaurant’s upper balcony was the setting for Renoir’s famous Luncheon of the Boating Party.
